It’s so difficult to write this at the moment but it is with a heavy heart i say that my father lost his battle with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma on July 23rd, 2022 at the young age of 60. He was first diagnosed back in November after being admitted to the hospital with severe pain later revealing he had a massive malignant tumor in his lower back. After being told that it would be impossible to surgically remove the tumor, he began an aggressive treatment at Rush University medical center in order to save his life. The Chemotherapy immediately started taking a toll on his physical health leading to many complications, eventually to be put on a respirator in a sedated state. Although many times it seemed like the weight of the treatment would be too much to bare my dad fought through it, occasionally waking up to let us know with a nod or a wink that he was still in it. His resilience and will to survive was beyond admirable.
Willy was born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and was the 3rd youngest of 8 brothers and sisters. He has always done whatever he could to survive and help his family in any way he could. It’s amazing to hear stories about my fathers resilience and ability to make something out of nothing in order to help feed
his family when he was only a teenager. Always put his loved ones first.
He met his wife , my mother, Maria De Lourdes in 1987 after they had both just arrived to the United States. Immediately they fell in love and started their journey together with the intention of securing a promising future for themselves. They started with very little but worked hard and hustled night and day to make ends meet. Eventually bringing two children into the world, Jessica and myself William Jr.
That’s who my dad was. A hard worker with great work ethic who would give you food off of his plate if he saw you had less on yours. He was selfless and loved passionately. Always the life of the party, the musician(his favorite instrument was the Guiro)the joker. He loved music and some of his favorite past times was driving around Humboldt park blasting Salsa from the speakers of his car. His all time favorite artists were Cano Estremera, Raphy Leavitt and all the artists from Fania.
At the end of May he was told by doctors he was cancer free But the good news was short lived. Within a month we received news that the cancer was back and there was nothing that could be done. My Father made his peace with the situation and decided he would spend whatever time he had left in the company of his family and friends. He had a positive attitude until the very end, singing, dancing and joking with us as he always did. William Flores was a great person and set a great example to anyone he encountered. The proudest Boricua I ever knew. Effortlessly cool. He is loved and will forever be missed.
Any and all donations are appreciated if you have the capacity to do so. Sharing would also help my family and I with funeral expenses and arrangements to give my father the burial he wanted.
Gosa en la vida eterna pa, nunca te olvidaremos, que descanses en paz.
