William O'Brien - Project Africa - Malawi 2024

Hi, my name is William O'Brien, a 15-year-old Explorer Scout from the 1st Purley & Pangbourne Scout Group. I will be joining other Scouts from across Berkshire on an expedition to Malawi as part of the Project Africa initiative in July 2024.

The trip to Malawi will be similar to those run in previous years to Uganda, where we will be supporting community projects and local charity work for three weeks. To support my journey, we have been undertaking individual fundraising to cover the costs of our trip, close to £4,000.

There are 5 project that we will be supporting:

Alongside my co-Explorers, I've been carrying out fundraising activities, including refereeing football matches, baking cakes, making bacon butties and car boot sales.

I am now down to raising the last few hundred pounds to complete my fundraising and anything that you could gift me to help me get there would be really appreciated to.

I am really excited about this trip, as I aim to learn more about different cultures in Africa and give something back to the communities in Malawi, and to Project Africa. I also hear they love football as much as I do so I am really looking forward to playing football with them!
