William Parker, Jr. Memorial Fund

Donation protected
On February 26 we lost our father, brother, and friend, William Brinton Parker, Jr. who passed away peacefully in his sleep.  In his memory we are raising money for the ongoing care of Parkersville Meeting House.

Bill was a Trustee for many years and took great joy in assisting in the maintenance and preservation of the meeting house.

The meeting house was built by Bill's great-great grandfather John Parker, Jr.  who also donated the land the meeting house was built on.  The meeting house was built in 1830 and damaged by a fire on November 29, 1917.  Following the discontinuance of the meeting in 1939, the care of the property has been under the custodial committees formed under the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and the Western Quarterly Meeting.

Current Trustees include Dale Frens, Joan Parker Hadik (GGG granddaughter of John Parker, Jr.), Mary Sproat, and John Beer.

Maintenance, as needed, is carried out under the direction of the committee, mostly paid for by tax deductible contributions and bequests to the meeting property.  No modern changes have been made to the property; it has no electricity or running water, and is still much the same as it was in 1830.

In recent years, improvements to the property included rebuilding the walls around the cemetery and parking areas and re-plastering and painting of the interior.  The roof was repaired in 2004 following major damage from a storm-induced tree fall.

The meeting is opened annually on the second First Day of Ninth Month (The second Sunday of September) for a gathering of Friends, neighbors, and descendants of former members.  All interested parties are invited to participate.

100% of the memory donated will be given to the Parkersville Meeting Property, a non-profit organization responsible for the care and maintenance of the meeting house.
