Bill TerHaar – A Gentle Giant Has Fallen: ( by Keith McLane)

We are deeply saddened to announce that Bill Terhaar passed away unexpectedly on May 28th, alone in his hotel room, while working on a project in San Bernardino California. The cause of his death has not yet been confirmed, but they believe that he suffered a fatal heart attack.

Bill was a great inspiration and friend to everyone who knew him or worked with him, he will be deeply missed. Bill truly embodied the notion of a gentle giant, his physical stature was only surpassed by the size of his heart. He thrived on interacting with people and helping lift them up to achieve more than they ever believed they could themselves, and they loved him for it.

Bill was a consummate professional in his work, he always embraced the challenge, and rarely ever complained about the conditions.  No matter if it was behind the bar at a popular hotspot in Miami, on a deep sea fishing boat in the outer banks of Alaska, or in the back of a rack in a humid dusty equipment room in the jungles of Vietnam– he simply got the job done.

Bill was a wrestler in his youth and applied much of those same principles -  the careful management and balance of pressure - to his daily life. If Bill worked hard in his professional life, he played equally hard in his personal one. Recently, he spent considerable time cruising the resort island of Phu Quoc on a rental scooter, searching out its magnificent collection of beaches. He also greatly enjoyed jet skiing whenever possible. But mostly Bill loved spending time with his wife Julie and sons Ethan and Kolby.

Bill’s passing comes at a particularly challenging time for Julie as her father is currently undergoing extensive chemotherapy in his ongoing cancer battle. This would have been difficult enough with Bill by her side, it will be exponentially more so without him. The current COVID pandemic has also restricted Julie’s teaching opportunities adding even further strain.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider making a small donation to this Go-Fund-Me campaign, in order to help Julie defray some of the unexpected burdens these challenges have brought with them now in the form of added expenses, and in the sudden reduction of resources moving forward. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated and will hopefully relieve some of the stress so she can focus on overcoming her personal grief.
