Williams Family Hurricane Fund
Donation protected
Over 30,000 homes lost power when Hurricane Irma hit Gainesville, Florida, on Sept. 10, 2017. Most had their power and water restored within a day.
Gainesville native David Williams Sr., a 62-year-old disabled veteran, and his partner, Diane Garrison (pictured), were particularly hard hit after a tree fell and knocked the power connection off their house during Irma. They were without power for two months. Since they are on well water and require power to run their pump, they were also without water for drinking, washing, and toilet flushing during this time.
Navigating two months without power and water on a fixed disability income caused physical and financial hardships that the Williams family are still dealing with today. They sustained extensive water damage in their home, and have been quoted $6,000 for electrical work needed, an impossible sum for them.
For more information, here is a published story about the Williamses and the storm: https://www.wuft.org/news/energy-burden/the-storm/
This campaign aims to help fund the Williams’ repair work and/or find an electrician who may be able to donate some time to help the Williams family recover from Irma.
If you may be able to help the family, please email me using the GoFundMe contact information.
