My mother, Wilma Marrero, is such a wonderful woman. Spending all of her life involved in bettering the community and always ready to open her heart and home to anyone in need. She made many sacrifices and did whatever was necessary to ensure that we were all safe, healthy and prosperous. Wilma looked out for our friends in the same way.
Our strong, hilarious, vivacious, warm-hearted mother now struggles to catch her breath while walking to the couch. With most people you think a cough is just a cough, but in our case that cough alerted us to her being diagnosed with a devastating terminal illness. In June of 2014 she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Carcinoma (a.k.a. RCC orKidney Cancer). This type of cancer is not curable but is treatable. The American Cancer Society reports the five-year survival rate for someone being diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Carcinoma at 8%.
Regardless of the long road ahead of her, our beloved Mom continues to be in great spirits. She has undergone numerous surgeries this year and was being treated with radiation pills. The oncologist is now treating her with a weekly chemotherapy regiment, the first of which took place on Wednesday December 17th, 2014.
We created the gofundme site to help Mom with her medical and living expenses as well as just her everyday quality of life in general. Even a few dollars will go a long way in helping her. We thank you in advance for your generous donations.
