Dear WSGD friends and family,
We have reached a critical point with the gym due to the continued COVID restrictions we're facing this year. We are in need of help to continue to be able to offer gymnastics, Ninja, tumbling, cheer and twirling classes to the greater Chambersburg community.
Just prior to celebrating our 41st year in business in April, we were forced to close for 12 weeks due to the COVID-10 Pandemic.
We re-opened in June on a very limited basis and ran at about 10% capacity all summer long.
At this point, in mid- November, we are running at about 60% of our normal yearly enrollment. Families have identified that they would like to return, but have concerns over not just COVID itself, but the inability of families to use the lobby, financial hardships faced by families and the current restrictions set forth by the State.
We've faced a number of set-backs this year including:
*The full loss of income for 3 months
* The reduction of our Staff by 2/3
* The cancellation of our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Handsprings for Hope Invitational gymnastics meet in April. We refunded over $60,000 in fees to gyms that were registered for the meet and took more than a $40,000 loss on the meet.
*At this point, we have been unable to find a large facility to host the 2021 meet. Schools are unable for rent due to the Pandemic.
* Our dedicated, long-term Staff members have exhausted unemployment benefits and are still unable to return to work for us full time.
* The loss of daytime classes, Preschool Playtime, Sleep-overs and Open gym due to restrictions.
At WSGD, we have always believed that we teach more than gymnastics. We purpose to instill values of self-confidence, excellent work-ethic, team-work and problem solving skills in the kids we work with. We hope that they learn a love of movement and sport and have healthier bodies and minds through their participation at WSGD.
In our 41 years in business, we've been so blessed to work with thousands of children. Whether in recreational classes or competitive teams, we are proud of the positive impact we've had in the lives of the children we work with.
We hope to have the opportunity to both see year 42 (and beyond) and to continue to offer excellent programs to the children of the greater Chambersburg community.
Please feel free to share, as we'd like to reach both current and former participants in our class and team programs.
Money raised will help to cover our operating expenses for the next three months: rent, insurance, utilities, etc.
