Wingate Playground Project

***FUNDING NEEDED TO COMPLETE PHASE 1***
The Wingate playground was constructed in 1982 and unfortunately, there have been very few improvements since then. As a result of the age and structure of the playground, many children with disabilities in the school and larger community are unable to access the playground, which causes them to miss out on the benefits of play and social interaction. However, it is possible to create an inclusive playground that is designed to be accessible to all learners regardless of their abilities. An inclusive playground is a universally designed, sensory-rich environment that allows all children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally. Such playgrounds provide just the right level of challenge and offer opportunities to succeed. Inclusive playgrounds go beyond minimum accessibility standards to create play and experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests, which is vital for all children. An inclusive playground is a place where children of all abilities can interact with each other and do what all kids want to do: PLAY! Play is a vital part of childhood development, and it helps children learn important life skills such as communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. Unfortunately, not all children have access to safe and well-equipped playgrounds where they can engage in such activities.
