Winnie Woo Needs You
Donation protected
We rescued Winnie approximately 8 months ago. She was what was called a Death Row Dog, meaning she landed in an animal shelter positive for heart worms. Shelters won’t treat these dogs and simply put them down. Fortunately for us, a rescue organization had pulled her and treated her so she was heartworm negative and healthy and ready for a home.
We saw Winnie in a crate at Petco and that smile just won us over and we had to make her part of our family. Fast forward to today and why this campaign....we recently had our house burn down. At approximately 4:30 am I heard noises in the kitchen, rushed out to find our kitchen engulfed in flames. We made sure the kids got out but the dogs were nowhere to be seen. We tried going back into the house (dumb I know) but we couldn’t find them.
When the firefighters got there, we begged them to find our dogs. We own three. They donned oxygen and charged into the fire. Out came out Rat Terrier, hope made its presence felt. The next dog out was Winnie!! She had gone upstairs with our English Bulldog to bark at the kids to wake them up as they knew they were in danger. Winnie was alive but just barely. She took a breath about once every 15 seconds. Clearly in pain but alive after 20 minutes in a fire engulfed house.
Third dog out was our beloved Tucker! Another rescue dog that I have had for many years. Hope? Not for Tuck. He unfortunately expired in the fire. That breed doesn’t breathe well to begin with. My stubby nosed superhero died making sure his family was awake and knew that this was happening.
So the focus turned to Winnie, we rushed her to the emergency vet where they put her in an oxygen tent for several days and treated her lungs and GI tract for burns and smoke damage. After a few nail biting days, we learned the vet was confident she would make it and would probably make a full recovery. Thank you god.
The expenses as you might imagine are overwhelming and her bill is at $3500 so far and climbing. I will go to any length to treat and save her but we are stretched super thin and living in a hotel room right now.
So so I am hoping that my fellow dog lovers can rally around the memory of my stubby nosed superhero who passed on and his little sister Winnie Woo as we call her. She’s an amazing dog and she needs help. Thank you for anything you can give to help our cause.
We aren’t looking to profit from this campaign. Any funds raised over and above the amount of her vet bills will be donated back into the rescue community. Thanks again!
