Winnie's Excess Vet Bills
Donation protected
A crowdfunder is not something I ever thought I would have to do, nor something I’ve ever wanted to do. But here goes:
Our beloved 2.5 year old English Setter, Winnie, received exploratory and then reparative surgery on Monday the 7th of November following acute illness related to some carpet she ingested. Although her recovery was initially promising, she was re-admitted to Ashgrove Vets in Aberdeen on Wednesday night because she had stopped eating.
By Thursday mid-morning she had a high temperature and Thursday night we got the call no pet parent ever wants to receive: she had sepsis in her abdomen and needed surgery immediately to remove the infection. Three hours later, we were enormously relieved to hear she had made it through.
We are still in the critical period of her recovery: if we can get through the first five days, the odds improve dramatically. We do have insurance with a limit of £4000. Some of that has already been used in this calendar year for her allergy medication.
Our vet bill as Friday the 11th of November was about £5900. Assuming she is not re-admitted on Monday the 14th, we are looking at needing to pay about £3000 out of pocket.
If you know Winnie, you know she is a wee darling. She never fails to bring a smile to people's faces. She has a very loving temperament and is always so happy to greet people and other dogs - especially in one of her favourite places: Stewart Park.
This has been a nightmare of a week for us. Winnie is our girl: she has got us through Covid, she has made our house a home.
I know that times are tough for everyone just now, so there is no pressure to donate. But if you do want to throw a few quid our way, every little bit will help.
Thank you so much. I'll update again as things progress.
