Winter in Calais Refugee Support
Donation protected
We (Julie, Gav and Trev) are heading back to Calais again this year in between Christmas and New Year to deliver badly needed warm camping gear and clothing to refugees sleeping rough in and around Calais. We need your help to fill our van and buy badly needed items for delivery. Our transport costs will be completely self-funded so anything you can donate will go directly to buying clothes and gear for these people. If you can, please donate what you can however small.
We have been advised that items that are in dire need are:
– Men’s underwear (boxers not briefs; new not used) (really needed!)
– Sleeping bags and blankets (really needed!)
– Thin, dark socks
– Men’s thin or thick waterproof jackets

The crisis is ongoing in Calais. According to recent report from the organisation Help Refugees, there are nearly 1,500 displaced people living between Calais and Dunkirk, including nearly 250 unaccompanied children and an increasing number of families. These people have to endure freezing conditions over the winter months and rely on donations from the volunteer teams working there year round.
We are traveling by ferry in Gav's van arriving on 28th December in Calais. We have gathered a good load of sleeping bags/blankets, mats and shoes which we got from Pip and his team from Whistles for Refugees who clear up campsites after summer music festivals. When we arrive we will volunteer in the Warehouse in Calais. We did this last year and learned about the amazing work done year round to support people in Calais. Here is our blog post on this:
