Winter in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Surviving Winter in the nation's capital region is not going to be easy, but we're committed to staying here to keep a watchdog's eye on the state of American democracy by covering the federal government from inside the Beltway.
The New American Journal continues to find unique ways to tell stories and make a difference, even in a world where Facebook and Google have sucked most of the advertising dollars away from newspapers and news websites. That's why we're reaching out to readers for support, because we are committed to keeping the site NewAmericanJournal.Net free online with no paywall or popup ads.
As always, as we've been doing for the past 18 years, we are not in this business to make big profits. We're only asking for readers to help us cover basic expenses to keep the news operation going on the road where the stories are.
We played a key role in getting information to the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack on the role Steve Bannon played in the insurrection. He was subpoenaed, found in contempt of Congress and indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice as a result. He was then found guilty and is awaiting the results of an appeal and sentencing.

Monthly Expenses
- We're spending about $185 a month for an iPhone, cell phone service WiFi internet access and a T-Mobile hotspot as a backup.
- Auto insurance for the media camper van costs about $50 a month.
- We won't be paying for campsite fees, power, water or sewer, garbage pickup or buying much gas this winter since we are not moving around much. We have a long-term campsite in a campground 10 miles north of the Washington Monument. But we will use about $125 a month for gas and propane for heat, hot water and a cook stove.
- Miscellaneous expenses: There are always unforeseen expenses, so to ensure we make it, we are asking for an extra $140 a month just in case something breaks down, bringing the monthly total to $500 for December, January, February and March.
- Subtotal: $500.
One Time Expenses
In December, we paid for an annual website hosting package to cover the cost of keeping the website and domain name up for another year: $350.
We need to purchase a new generator in case the power goes out: $550
We are set for dental implants: $3,600
We need another $450 to replace an exaust manifold on the media camper van.
Total Ask - $5,000
