Winter is Coming - Annual Hay Drive
Beschermde donatie
OUR STORY:
Its been almost two years since animal lovers from around the world cried with me as I walked up my driveway to a flood ravaged home and destroyed farm, all at the hands of Hurricane Harvey, the worst natural disaster to ever strike the United States. It was those same people who rejoiced with me as we found that a few of my beloved fur family had somehow survived the 6 foot of water that claimed the lives of so many of their barn mates.

An outpouring of love and support helped prompt a rebuilding effort that didn't stop when my home and farm was rebuilt, it extended to help animals from my community that had been lost, abandoned, or where an owner was just no longer able to provide care for their pets due to their own flooded home and property. We used those funds to establish a non-profit sanctuary for farm animals; named after our lone-surviving donkey, Ima Jean.

Since then we have adopted and rescued a number of pets from all over the country who have amazing personalities and unique characteristics. We've raised a two-ton Texas Longhorn bull that still gets emotional when his beloved red yoga ball bursts when it hits a barb-wire fence. We've all held our breath as we were somehow able to resuscitate a new-born baby puppy that was accidentally laid on and suffocated by its mother while nursing. And I think everyone's favorite memories of these past two years was being able to witness the successful rescue and rehabilitation of a donkey named Ivy, a puppy named D.O.G., and a beloved pig named Roland. The prayers of a nation are even with us now as we currently tend to another pig named Petunia who is struggling with obesity issues.
The world has laughed with us as we've seen Huck and Shirley, orphaned goats who have been raised on bottles since birth, discover how fun it is to climb on Daddy's Jeep. We've seen Annie Alpaca defend her best friend Peggy Pig from what she felt was a threat from our pet Boxer.

The things we've been blessed to witness and share with the world through our social media is just a reminder that the world does not have to be a bad, sad, menacing place. There is more to life than politics and racism, teens in fight videos or police bashing.
We have been blessed to be able to deliver this message through videos of our animals. They are more than farm animals, to us they are members of our family. We love them like we do our own children and will do anything in our power to make their lives more comfortable. It is our hope that the antics of our fur family offer you an escape from the negative and gives you a positive message to take from your time on social media.
OUR FUNDRAISER:
We are not the 'crazy cat lady'. We have day jobs and would never take on more animals than what we can afford to feed and take care of but in saying so, this is our most expensive time of year. Not only are we buying feeds and providing the usual care, but we are also prepping for getting our hay crop for the upcoming winter feedings. We don't own hay baling equipment, just the field of grass, and so we will have to pay to have it cut, raked, and baled/rolled.
It is important to say that we will not in good conscience accept donations from friends who have their own financial needs. I beg you, please take care of your own families needs before donating to mine. We are appreciative of everything you have done for us and we’ll manage with or without financial support. This fund raiser is mostly for folks who have the means and look for worthy causes to give to. We will run the fundraiser for a month, from mid July to middle of August and have the hay cut just before the first winter frosts.
Finally:
We know it is just as much a blessing to give as it is to receive and so we will never deny you that gift. But in saying so, giving can come in many forms. We welcome gifting in the form of time spent here at the sanctuary; petting, grooming, feeding, cleaning, and just loving the animals. We also get much encouragement from your positive comments and personal messages.
Managing an animal sanctuary and rescue was never what I had envisioned for myself, but in fulfilling this role it has changed who I am, how I live my life, how I raise my children, how I teach my students, and it has made me a better man. I am closer to nature and have a deep appreciation and ability for seeing God in everything around me. I am blessed.
Thank you guys for supporting me from the beginning.
