-- Wire Fraud Cost Gracie Her Life Savings

Graciela Veronica-Corona was robbed of her life savings as she was about to enjoy the American Dream of Homeownership.  In her words, “I want to tell you about a devastating event that has changed the course of my life. My name is Graciela Veronica-Corona. I’ve always dreamed of owning my own home and for years I’ve been working two jobs to save enough money for my down payment. Finally, after 8 years, my dream was becoming my reality. On August 8, I received an email directing me to send my down payment and closing costs via wire to what I thought was the title company.  I’m out at 5:30 a.m. to job No. 1  and the off to job No. 2 by 3 p.m., so, when I got the wire instructions I immediately sent the money and emailed the title company to confirm. I found out that all of my money had been stolen when I showed up for my closing, the day I was supposed to get the keys to my dream house. Wire fraud is shockingly real and there isn’t a thing that the bank, the police, FBI or the Secret Service has been able to do to help me. My $44,000, my life savings, is gone and I am left to rent a room in someone else’s house.
