Help with Cricket's Gall Bladder Surgery

Please help our sweet little sheltie Cricket get her lifesaving surgery

Our sheltie superstar Cricket requires immediate surgery to remove her infected gall bladder. The cost is an astronomical $7000 to $9000! Any help you can offer would be incredibly welcome. And any fundraising above the cost of the surgery will be donated to the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph where they specialize in diseases like Cricket has. 

Here is the update on our sweet little girl Cricket here. If you aren’t aware, our 8 year old sheltie pup fell ill in the fall, so ill we almost lost her. It was terrifying as she required IV because she was vomiting and had diarrhea. Amazingly, she recovered and we weren’t completely sure what had happened. Blood tests were confusing.

When it happened again a few weeks ago we knew it was time for an ultrasound to figure out exactly what was going on. We got the report back and it said that surgery was required to have her gall bladder removed.

 

We dug a little deeper and found out that she does indeed have a Biliary Mucocele in her gall bladder. The symptoms described, fit Cricket exactly. The research paper we looked at stated that “not only will surgery be needed but it will be needed immediately. The sooner the better”.

 

Luckily Cricket has yet again bounced right back and is seemingly back to normal. But the danger is still there and it’s real. When, not if, she gets her next attack it might be her last.

We were told medication is a possibility, but it is not effective in breaking down the goop already in her gall bladder. It would be even more risky to try that route.

 

Now our little queen here is only 8 years old and very spunky and full of life. We knew we had to do everything we could to help her. We got a quote for the earliest available surgery and it came in at an astounding $7000 to $9000. This is pretty devastating to our family.

 

Because of the astronomical cost, we have started a gofundme campaign for Cricket’s surgery. If you can help out at all, we would be eternally grateful, even just a little bit. However, if helping out is at all a stretch for you, please just keep her in your thoughts and prayers instead. If her campaign raises more than the surgery, we are donating all extra funds to Guelph University’s Hospital for Animals where they specialize in surgery like Cricket’s.
