Hello our friends and family. This past year has been very difficult for us in many ways. We are emotionally, mentally, physically, and even financially drained. About 14 months ago Michael my husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer that has spread to the liver. At the time we were told he was inoperable but treatable. He was doing well on the 2 chemotherapies and 1 immunotherapy they had him on, he was doing so good in fact they deemed him able to have an operation to remove the tumor in the colon and to install a Hepatitic Pump for the liver cancer treatment. We thought this was our best course of action so we went ahead and had the surgeries. It was 10 hours in the operating room but we thought it was worth it all. After the surgery they said they removed the tumor and that all should be well. A few weeks ago Mike’s cancer indicator number CEA went up and is continuing to rise. It is actually higher than it’s ever been before. The doctors are not sure what is going on yet but these numbers are indicating issues in the colon again. We have CT scans scheduled for this Thursday to try to figure this out.
Because Mike’s CEA number is rising they have put him back on the harsh chemotherapies again and wanted to keep him on his immunotherapy but our insurance has denied the immunotherapy because they don’t feel it can help him at this point even though the doctor begged them to allow it. We know this is the first battle of many we will have with the insurance as Mike’s medical bills just keep coming in.
Over the last year we have worked very hard to be able to keep our heads above water. He has continued to work and I had a job for 9 months until they wouldn’t allow me time off to care for him after his surgeries. Right now I’m trying to find work that will allow me time to care for him and make money for our family. Mike is also working but he may not be able to keep working the hours needed to pay expenses if things do not improve. This is very hard for me to type as we had been given so much hope just 2 1/2 months ago. I’m being open and real with you right now because I feel you need to know everything going on if you are willing to help us through this financially. It would be a blessing if we could raise enough money to help us get through the next few months as we navigate what we need to do next and not have to worry about finances on top of everything else going on. We also need money set aside if Mike has to go on disability due to this disease. If you feel lead to help we would appreciate it so much. We could never thank you enough.
