Gyan Jyoti School Project

Who are we?
The Gyan Jyoti School Building Society is a non-profit organization started in Whitehorse, YT, CA on a mission to assist in providing education in Kalimpong, West Bengal, India.
What do we do?
GJSBS have identified that the best way to help at present is to create an additional school wing for the Gyan Jyoti School in Echhey Busti just outside of Kalimpong.
The School
The Gyan Jyoti School was established in Echhey Busti in 1996 after the local village school had shut down. The school owes its existence to the late Mrs. Mansova Rai who donated the land to build the school on. Without her hardwork and love of education the school would not exist.

The Principal, Dinesh Rai, and his family work hard to provide a quality English-medium education to students in a village that otherwise wouldn't have it. Having started it in 1996 Dinesh has watched his school grow from only a handful of students to almost 90 this academic year.
Principal Dinesh Rai & President, Founder, & former volunteer, Liam Campbell
The staff are all local teachers from different backgrounds.
So what's the problem?
Gyan Jyoti School has 8 classes from ages 3 to 11 but there are only 6 classrooms.
With almost 90 students the school has reached capacity. 4 classes are forced to share 2 classrooms resulting in a degredation in the students education.
Here is our vision:
Our project will provide 2 additional classrooms to the school by employing a local company to build the additional building. By doing so we will be able to create some jobs in an area with extremely high unemployment.
The goal of this project is to not only improve the quality of education but also put food on the tables on those involved.
But we need your help. With a projected budget of 1 million rupees we will need to raise about $20 000 CAD.
Once the funds are raised our President and founder will return to Echhey Busti to administer the fund and volunteer again. He will provide the funds for his own trip: ALL MONEY IS GOING TO THE SCHOOL.
