WJHS Making Spaces Creates Makers

We are a school of innovators. Our students run to our school rather than away. They are drawn to a culture of Making, and our teachers cherish that students love learning. The students are exploring their interests and learning through hands on experiences with everything from cardboard and glue to emerging technologies. We are creating a school environment in which students hate snow days and are surprised when the bell rings.
We want students excited about school and learning in an environment where they feel free to explore what matters to them. We want to shape a group of innovators that will solve the world's problems and create the “NEXT BIG THING!” We want our students not only to study the world around them, but to change it for the better!
We know students develop their educational identities by the 8th grade. For many students we are their last chance to realize their potential to be great scientists, inventors, historians, writers, or anything else they can imagine. Studies show that middle level experiences set the tone for the future of a student's education. If we instill a passion for learning and confidence in their capabilities, they have a greater chance of succeeding in the future.
We believe students thrive in a safe environment where taking chances and failing leads to learning. Our staff focuses on building relationships with students to learn about their interests out of school to improve their curriculum within the classroom. This knowledge enables teachers to create relevant and real world hands on learning. We believe our teachers need to continue to grow and receive professional development to further our Making culture.
