Wollangarra To Mittagundi Alpine Walk 2024

Hi, my name is Ted and this year in April I will be walking from Wollangarra to Mittagundi as a participant in the 2024 Alpine Walk. The Alpine Walk is an 11 day, 150km trek through Victoria’s most rugged and remote wilderness and each only year ten young people are selected to represent the two organisations. After participating in my first Mittagundi 10 day program in autumn last year, I was hooked, I went on to do 3 more follow up programs each with a different focus, Winter Follow up, Enterprise and Woodchop. The staff there must have enjoyed me being there as mush as I did because I got the call to help raise money for the two organisations by walking from one to another.

The months leading up to the walk will be focused on independent fundraising from each walker, with an aim to raise as much as possible for their organisation. Neither of these outdoor ed centers are government funded and rely on the generosity of the community to continue their work. Only 50% of their funding comes from Program Fees and so they aim to raise the other 50% from the community, the Alpine Walk is a significant part of that. Each of the young people participating have the opportunity to help Mittagundi and Wollangarra do what they do best – take young people into the mountains and give them potentially life changing experiences. Primarily it is used to sponsor young people so that they can spend time bush walking, camping, abseiling, rafting and helping to run a farm.
