WOMB Community Mural and Beautification Project

Dear Friends,
I am so excited to share with you WOMB’s first community public art project!
WOMB just celebrated its first year and to achieve this public art vision, we need your support.
Funds gathered for this project will cover design, materials, creative leadership and community youth engagement costs. The project is scheduled for May – before the rains, and will be registered with the Mexican government as an OFFICIAL public work of art. Most importantly, your support for this effort will allow us to offer FREE workshops to Mexico City youth to learn a new skillset and partake in the beauty of creating large scale art. Your contribution, big or small, will support the arts on all fronts, and be a strong act of solidarity that demonstrates the power of art as a force for healing and love.
The Vision: Create an epic mural in an ancient (and very labor intensive) relief style technique covering the entirety of the east-facing façade of WOMB. This mural will tell a combination of stories, mixing Greek and Aztec mythology, Mexican folklore, as well as inventing a new visual language for our modern day. I will be teaming with muralist Dan Silva who has worked for years creating and teaching mural making for local communities. Portales (where WOMB is located) is considered one of the "at-risk" neighborhoods for youth and therefore an important opportunity for young people of this lively barrio to be involved. Our hope is also to be a part of a trend of investing in local beauty once again. The house where WOMB resides is a lovely 1940s home that would have been torn down and made into cookie-cutter condos. My hope is that WOMB and other such buildings will inspire a new renaissance of investing in the creatives who are reimagining neighborhoods that are beautiful and sustainable.
This past year, as we all know, has been economically challenging, especially for those working in the arts. Creatives have had to invent new ways to survive. This project uplifts the beauty and power of public art. We are committed to thriving and are open to suggestions on fundraising and other creative ideas for leveraging resources.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for celebrating with us, WOMB’s first year!
I love you all.

About WOMB:
WOMB is an emergent artist collective and sanctuary in the heart of Mexico City dedicated to the healing of the planet through creativity and the exploration of the divine feminine. According to the Aztec Sun Calendar, humanity is entering the Sun of the Flower wherein beauty, art and integration are the key attributes of this new era. It honors the wisdom of the flowers and is committed to the transformation of urban life by becoming a completely sustainable, off-the-grid, zero-waste community--combining permaculture, technology and the inventiveness of artists to create beautiful solutions.
