Women's Aid UK

Hello!
On Saturday, March 22 (my birthday) I will walk a marathon in support of Women’s Aid UK, a grassroots charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children (more info below). To make the marathon more interesting, I’m also currently in isolation as part of a covid medical study and so will be completing it without leaving my room (that’s approximately 11 405 laps of my 3.7 m room - room attached).

I’ve chosen this cause for two reasons in addition to the issue’s importance. Firstly, domestic abuse, while not directly related to my research, is an issue which reflects many of the themes of my research through its relationship with care and caring roles in society, and the history of the household being out of reach of public decision-making despite the inevitable relationship between what happens at home and what happens in public at a social level. Secondly, a few years ago I read the book “No Visible Bruises: what we don’t know about domestic violence can kill us” which a) taught me a lot about how complex the issue is, and b) was as sad as it was angering.

Hopefully you're happy to donate! But, if not, it's no stress; please have a read of what they do or of the book 'No Visible Bruises' - it's a real eye-opener!

*edit: the initial goal of £300 has already been reached, so I've increased it to £500!
*edit 2: the second goal of £500 has also been reached! So I've increased it to £700. Thanks so much to those that have donated!
*edit 3: the third goal of £700 was broken as well! THANK YOU! I've decided to completely send it and set a £1000 goal. Let's see how we go :)
