Women's wrestling documentary

The Women's Wrestling Hall of Fame is creating a documentary chronicling the journies of some of the first women in the WWE. These women were pioneers in the sport and fought for their spots. Titled "Circle of Champions: The History of Women's Wrestling," this film will go through the entire history of this women's sport. We will highlight the wins and bring light to the struggles they faced in the industry, with interviews from wrestlers, referees and others who were part of history. Once completed, the documentary will be placed into film festivals to bring awareness to the pioneers and champions of women's wrestling.

The inaugural 2023 class will include first ever women’s champion Cora Livingston, the First NWA Women’s Champion Mildred Burke, Beverly Shade, Toni Rose & Donna Christanello (tag team), the first openly gay female wrestler Susan “Tex” Green, the first female referee in WWE Rita Marie Chatterton, WWE Champion Carlene “Jazz” Begnaud, Olympic gold medalist Iryna Merleni, WWE Hall of Famer Luna Vachon, WWE Hall of Famer Madusa. Marva Scott, Babs Wingo, first African American champion Ethel Johnson, and GLOW Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling will be honored for being a groundbreaking all-female TV show and promotion.

As part of the New England Music Hall of Fame, the Women's Wrestling Hall of Fame will help launch the Athena Movement. This is a movement highlighting women in the music industry that have significantly impacted the direction of music over the years. Women like June Millington and Paula Cole are among this group of women. In 2023, the Athena Movement will hold events celebrating these women and all their achievements, along with empowering young girls who want to follow their dreams into music.

The funds collected will go towards many things. To finish this film, we will use funds to help with travel, filming and editing costs. Funds will also go towards gearing up the Athena Movement to make a big splash in 2023.
