Wonderful family resettling in the US

My name is Caroline, and I am raising money for a deserving refugee family of 8 that will be resettled in the United States at the end of the November.

From 2015-2019, I helped refugees who had found themselves in Bangkok after being forced to flee their homes.

I came to know one family particularly well. Their son assisted countless refugees as an interpreter at our office. I was continually impressed with his compassion and endless positivity. When refugees seeking legal assistance came to our office, he always greeted them with a warm smile and treated them with respect and care. We frequently had to deal with urgent situations – including late-night arrests or refugees evicted from their homes with no place to stay – even at odd hours of the night, but he was always available to lend a hand. Now he and his family need our support.

Though they have stayed in Thailand almost ten years, Thailand has no refugee law to protect them. Instead, Thailand considers them to have entered and stayed in the country illegally. Despite being accepted for resettlement to the United States and in possession of a plane ticket out of the country, they will be forced to go to court and pay a fine before exiting the country.

The fine could reach more than $500 per person, depending on the judge’s order, so the family has been advised to prepare at least $3,500.

This sum is wholly out of reach for the family.

We are seeking your support to help this family pay their fine at the court so that they can finally make a fresh start in the United States.

In the event that the fine is less than $500 per person, the family can use the remaining funds to start their new life in the United States.
