After military service I was diagnosed with PTSD. Dogs were part of my therapy. My dogs were/are keeping me alive and in turn I wanted them to have a thriving life; that meant giving them the best nutrition and care. After learning what we learned as parents to our two bulldogs (btw bulldogs are notorious for neurological diseases), we thought there's got to be a cool way to teach others about this. That's how Woofbowl - a true food truck that serves made fresh and from scratch doggie treats such as burgers, ice cream donuts, dog beer, and more was born.
Like many, if not all, businesses, we have hit some hurdles. Here's some to name a few
- 2018: gave my military life savings to a contractor to customize the interior of our truck. The contractor filed for bankruptcy. We were unable to recover any funds and had to build the truck with yet again our own funds. At this point, the loss totaled to almost 100k
- 2019-2021: Covid hit within 7-8 months of our official truck launch date. Sales went to 0 as the world halted
- 2019 and on: food and supply inflation
- 2023: car stolen from a Brooklyn parking garage
- 2024: no spend trends/challenges - this viral trend involved going as long as possible without spending money
- 2024: social and political unrest
- 2024: consecutive weekends of rain
- 2024: multiple summer heat waves
Adversity is not a new concept to us. We come from very humble beginnings. I was raised in the zip code that incarcerates more Black men than any other zip in America. Solo and her family trekked through mine-filled jungles to escape the Khmer Rouge and came to the US as refugees with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Being lean, innovative, and creative is so innate to us at this point.
We quit our high powered careers, mine in the financial regulatory sector and Solo an electrical/biochemical engineer, to revolutionize the pet food industry with our audacious and bold plan. But we've come to a point where it's not a lack of knowledge or work ethic and drive that's preventing us from executing our ideas, it's capital.
Woofbowl is the execution and result of just two people - my wife and me. I can only imagine the possibilities if we had a team. With your help we can hire employees so we're working more on the business instead of in the business to propel growth. More importantly we can continue to be a net positive for love.
We're always working towards becoming a more green company. Funds can help us reduce waste, use more sustainable products, improve energy efficiency, and integrate more green practices such as purchasing a solar generator and more.
We're currently at a commercial kitchen, but we're very limited on space, storage, and equipment. With your help we can expand our product lines to packaged treats and be able to offer better and more convenient products to you and not be so weather dependent.
We know a lot of people around the world are hurting. That's why we ask of you: every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference in helping us. Thank you for your generosity, continued support, and standing by us.
