Dear friends, players, members and supporters of Worcester Park CC,
I’m writing to you at what should be the start of our 99th year of cricket at Green Lane – but obviously we won’t be able to make the most of this unusually excellent April cricket weather as we all observe the social distancing needed to help stop the spread of Covid-19.
We don’t yet know what form, if any, the 2020 cricket season will take, but it is already clear to us that the financial impact of the virus could threaten our future as a club and I want to make sure you know of all the ways you can help us get through this next few months.
The way our cricket is funded, particularly the provision and maintenance of our main home ground at Green Lane, is very much down to our parent club Worcester Park Athletic Club and the revenue it generates.
Since the Athletic Club shut its doors at short notice on 20th March, it has had no income from members, guests, visiting teams and people enjoying functions . This is going to cause challenges with paying for end of season grounds maintenance works, staff wages and money due to the brewery....
And let’s be frank, without WPAC we would essentially be homeless, and in reality would probably cease to exist as the community cricket club we know.
The Athletic Club’s committee and management are of course working to minimise these impacts during a challenging few months – but as a club that enjoys and benefits from the facilities provided at Green Lane it is only right that we, Worcester Park Cricket Club, make a financial contribution.
For those of you who are able to make an immediate donation, we have set up this GoFundMe page . Please give anything you can to help us quickly raise the money we have pledged to contribute towards the immediate running costs of WPAC.
We are aiming to make an initial payment of at least £5,000 to WPAC before the end of May.
