wordless fund

In 2020 we started a small project to find, gather, and share “wordless music” (songs without words to listen to while working, reading, writing, studying, etc.) – www.wordlesscollective.com.
Spotify enables this project, but there’s obviously a real dark side to the streaming economy and Spotify in particular. While our hope is that a project for discovering and drawing attention to a pretty niche category of music might make some small positive contribution, we also fully realize that by using Spotify we’re contributing to a much larger and potentially existential problem facing the entire creative universe.
In response, we’re encouraging anyone who enjoys our little project to make a contribution here. We're seeding the fund now and will make annual contributions. If you share our love for this music, we hope you'll join us.
Each January, we’ll distribute the proceeds: half will go directly to the wordless artists we’ve featured on our project (via their Bandcamp pages or similar) and half will go to United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW), a 501c4 non-profit that is fighting for a more just music industry.
