Working Idle - Short Film

Support a short film celebrating winter magic and self-exploration!

Logline:
When the power goes out in her home during a winter storm, a work-at-home middle-aged woman rediscovers the joy that can come from the simplest things, like her wonderland-esque home.

Concept/ synopsis:
Almost all the film’s aspects will be decided upon through improvisation in rehearsal. This allows for collaborations between the cast and crew!

Winter is generally perceived as a bleak time of year when we stay indoors to shelter from the cold. However, it's also full of childlike wonder and magic. This magic is chaotic and unpredictable, which is why I want to make this short from an improvisational angle.

The main character is the the caretaker and moneymaker of your typical suburban family. She always working at her laptop and obsessively plans out each day. She also explores gender fluidity throughout the short.

When she loses power in her home due to a winter storm, she is able to experiment with her sense of self (hence the gender fluidity aspect). She begins looking around her home for things to do, and eventually realizes she can have some fun and embrace her inner child. Ultimately, she finds that the chaos in her situation has led her to embrace life.

About our director:
Sander Knudson (they/them) has a small town background with some big time ambitions. Originally from Cold Spring, MN and sometimes residing in Chicago, they’re attending their third year at DePaul University with a BFA in Directing for Film and Television. They have worked on numerous projects in the past in various roles for their first two years. For their third year, they have been making a point to direct their own projects the first of which “Sprouting to Bloom” is currently being edited on. They seek to make films related to the “human experience” and its various meanings.

Why you should support!
This is your chance to support a totally unique project celebrating slow living. We've all experienced the intensities of daily life, being students, working full time, etc. Hopefully this film can remind you to relax and explore the world in a different way!
