World Bicycle Relief 2022
Donation protected
World Bicycle Relief (WBR) is ending transportation and time poverty in Africa and other underdeveloped regions by mobilizing people through The Power of Bicycles. WBR is committed to helping people conquer the challenge of distance, achieve independence and thrive. WBR envisions a world where distance is no longer a barrier to education, healthcare and economic opportunity. 2022 is my sixth year supporting WBR, and to date, I've raised approximately $60,000 across multiple platforms, enough for nearly 400 bicycles. I'm excited to be a Program Ambassador and WBR Advisory Council Member in 2022!
Just $165 provides a brand new Buffalo Bicycle to an individual in need. In 2022, for the first $5,000 donated to this page, I will leverage my employer's matching donation program to double your donation. I will also cover the administrative costs of this GoFundMe page.
The Impact
For many people in rural regions of developing countries, poverty is a daily reality. In areas where walking is the only mode of transport, a Buffalo Bicycle offers the real and immediate benefit of reliable access to essential goods and services. Powered by the remarkable human spirit, bicycles are a catalyst to possibilities. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, are part of a sustainable development agenda that aims to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. WBR's bicycle program is a cross-cutting solution that helps address multiple SDGs.
With a bicycle ...
Education: Student attendance increases up to 28% by saving 3 hours of valuable time for every 10 miles traveled.
Healthcare: Community healthcare volunteers make 88% more patient visits by being able to travel 4X the distance of someone walking.
Economy: Dairy farmers increase deliveries by 25%, in part due to a 5X increase in carrying capacity from hand-carrying.
WBR's innovative model, combines philanthropic distributions with social enterprise sales, and is the backbone on which they deliver greater efficiencies of scale, distribute more bicycles per donation and generate deeper impact where they work.
