World Festival Houston 2020

Welcome to Boomtown! Come join our team!
Our team has been meeting after school once a week since the beginning of September. We have worked through each of the sessions in our Engineering Notebooks to come up with our model of a hotel that makes life easier, happier, or more connected for the people that use it (accessible, durable, and sustainable). We chose a hotel because people need a place to live and it is always fun to go to a hotel to go swimming. We used the WeDo 2.0 software to program four moving parts to help Marco and Mia get around our hotel.
Team #7848 was personally invited by the New Mexico Operational Partners! Only one FLL Jr. team in the state of New Mexico was selected to attend the World Festival in Houston this year and Team #7848 graciously accepted. In addition, only 50+ FLL Jr. teams, from over 70 countries will be participating with a total of 1,400 teams in all divisions. FLL Jr. is part of a larger community network (STORM FORCE) that is building relationships for a collective impact approach to improving access to education, mentoring, and building skills in STEAM for career development. Partnerships include SCSD, NMT, City and County, as well as businesses and non-profits.
What is FIRST LEGO League Jr.?
It’s never too early to discover STEM. FIRST LEGO League Jr. is designed to introduce STEM concepts to kids ages 6 to 10 while exciting them through a brand they know and love − LEGO®.
Guided by adult coaches (Mr. Hunter has been coaching LEGO teams, FLL and FLL Jr. for the past five years) and FIRST® Core Values, students build models using LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 and create Show Me posters to present what they learned. The program focuses on building interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through a real-world challenge – to be solved by research, critical thinking, and imagination.
FIRST Core Values
We express the FIRST philosophies of Gracious Professionalism and Coopertition through our Core Values:
Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.
Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.
Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.
Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.
Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!
