World War 2 Memorial for the Willunga & Districts RSL

Donation protected
My name is Shane Reiche, and I am the President of the Willunga & Districts RSL sub-branch. Our sub-branch is raising money to build a WW2 memorial to honour the locals who served the nation in WW2, particularly the 13 locals who paid the ultimate sacrifice in that conflict. Our ANZAC Day Ceremonies are conducted from the steps behind the RSL. In 2024, we estimated our ANZAC Day attendance to be more than 1,000 local people at our Dawn Service. However, we do not have a permanent memorial in that space and have been relying on a temporary wooden cross on a stand of milk crates covered in hessian as our memorial focal point. A memorial to our fallen is the centre of all the RSL ceremonial events and this temporary arrangement, whilst adequate for the last four services in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024, needs to be replaced with a permanent and fitting memorial. The memorial will provide the families of the local WW2 service personnel, their ancestors, and friends, a permanent memorial and space for them to reflect, honour and remember the sacrifices made by the 13 locals who paid the ultimate sacrifice in WW2 and the 147 others who suffered physical and mental injuries due to their service to the Nation. Any money raised above the $13,000 target will be donated to Legacy.
