Urgent Appeal for Support: Rebuilding After Fire

I hope this appeal finds you in good health and high spirits. My name is Tonya Eggleston, and I am reaching out to you during a time of profound need and crisis. On November 10th, 2023, I experienced a life-altering event when a devastating fire swept through the Reserve at Lavista Walk Apartments in Atlanta, Georgia. Perhaps you saw the news coverage that highlighted the severity of the situation.

Regrettably, I lost everything. 

The circumstances surrounding the fire are currently under investigation, as it has been revealed that the building was not up to code. Shockingly, the smoke detectors failed to function, and the sprinkler systems were non-operative, contributing to the rapid spread of the fire.

This building was never properly secured after the incident & the apartments that didn’t bum completely down were subsequently robbed & looted over & over.

Despite the losses, I am grateful to be alive, as is my child. However, we now find ourselves destitute, facing the overwhelming task of rebuilding our lives from scratch.

My most immediate concern is securing housing for myself and my child. Without a place to call home, it is challenging to focus on the other essential aspects of recovery, such as obtaining food, clothing, and the financial support needed for incidentals. Moreover, replacing vital documents that were lost in the fire adds an additional layer of complexity to an already difficult situation.

In light of these circumstances, I am reaching out to you and our community for support.
