Would like to financially support my brother
Donation protected
My name is Kevin, and I am a university ESL instructor. I plan to return to Korea in the spring semester and resume my teaching job in Daejeon. One of the main reasons I am going back is to earn and save enough money to send home to my brother to help support him and take care of our house. Although I am fortunate to have a steady job here at home (but not in my field), it is financially unsustainable, and I am barely living paycheck to paycheck (in fact, I’m in the process of selling my possessions to make it by).
It is my hope and plan to be able to earn and save enough to start sending home to help my brother, who only receives a monthly SSI disability payment. However, it could take some months for me to be able to start doing so. The trust account that I manage for him has gotten pretty low, and I would feel much more comfortable if there were more of a financial cushion to help him get by until I am able to start sending money back home. All donations received will go straight to his trust account. He would be able to use that money to buy food and continue to pay the monthly bills, and any other unforeseen event that may arise. I’ve been quite reluctant to pursue this option, but any support we are able to raise would be infinitely appreciated. Thanks for reading.
UPDATE (Feb 2023): My brother’s health has taken a turn for the worse and I will need to remain here at home to make sure he is OK. I am no longer going overseas; my plans for that are on hold indefinitely. My priority is to focus on my brother and to see what the next step is. Also, unfortunately, since I initially posted this, our septic system has reached near failure, and we have been quoted a figure of $14,000 to replace it. Since I am no longer going overseas and won’t be earning enough money now, the financial need is even more critical than before. I will leave this fundraiser open a little while longer. Once again, I truly thank all of you who have selflessly donated. It truly means everything to us.
