Hi, my name is Gabriel Saldana and this is my story.

Friday 4/29 I started having abdomen pain after eating dinner. It was a Friday, so it was cheat meal day, so my fiancé and i decided to pick up Olive Garden Togo! I ordered the fettuccini alfredo with shrimps and mussels. Almost immediately after, my stomach was hurting. I took a few tums and tossed back a Pellegrino to help soothe my tummy, but ultimately decided to go to bed because of the pain.

Saturday 4/30 I woke up feeling bloated and full my tummy felt sore and tender, so I decided to skip breakfast and lunch. I felt well enough to eat dinner. I only had a few bites before the pain came roaring back. I decided to stopped eating and thought back to the shrimp pasta. I wondered if I had food poisoning because I still felt unwell. I did not sleep that night until 5 am, tossing and turning eventually, until I was able to rest my eyes while curled in a ball.

Sunday 5/1 the pain is constant but bearable if i don’t eat. I’m scared to eat! i spend most of my day just relaxing on the sofa hoping i would feel better for Monday as i have work. dinner time comes and i decide to eat a vegetable soup. i got halfway done when a sharp debilitating pain shot through my abdomen towards my spine. the pain had me on the floor rolling in agony my stomach instantly puffed up and became bloated. I began to dry heave in pain. i quickly drank Pepto and tossed a handful of tums back to no avail. i stayed up until 4-5am rocking myself back and forth in pain. I decided it’s time to seek professional help.

Monday 5/2 i checked into urgent care at my primary Dr office. The Dr came in to see me and within 3 min diagnosed me with gastritis (Acid reflux). i told the Dr that i was surprised since i tried several antacids with no luck. Dr said that most OTC antacids don’t work, and he prescribed me Prilosec. Dr also advised me that i needed to eat to help soak up some of the acid in my stomach. so, i went home and had lunch which resulted in more intense pains the antacid medication did nothing. the pain has been getting worse each day.

Tuesday 5/3 I decided to get a second opinion i went to a second urgent care in a big hospital hoping that they would have answers. i told the Dr that the pain is unbearable i have not slept in days i told him what the other diagnosed and he said he did not agree this Dr pressed on my tummy and within 3 min also diagnosed me. He determined that i had food poisoning and prescribed anti-nausea meds and anti-cramp meds. i asked him if it could be e-coli or salmonella he said there was no way of testing for specific bugs. i went home feeling ready and prepared for dinner, I ate half a sandwich and took my meds but the pains were the most painful yet. i fell to the floor clutching my stomach and telling myself it would pass the Drs know what they’re doing its nothing serious it was just some bad shrimp. i stayed up until 4am when i finally decided to go to the ER.

Wednesday 5/4 I’m at the ER within 45 min I’m checked in blood drawn and it was determined i had a lipase level of 6013 indicating that my pancreas is inflamed the Dr was astonished at the value, as most people come to the ER with pain at around 1000. ultrasound and CT later confirmed i have acute pancreatitis.

I have been admitted to the hospital since 5/4 at the time of writing this it is now 4/13 and counting. the Drs have not been able to figure out the cause of the pancreatitis and are struggling to get my lipase levels down.

today is 5/13 and my lipase levels are 995 a great milestone as i have been trying to get my levels under 1000 for 9 days now. I’m still 3x the normal level, i get blood draws and anticlot vaccines daily my veins are bruised and sore. my stomach is covered in bruises from the anticlot vaccines. I’m constantly hooked up to an IV and getting flushed with 4 1000ml bags daily. I’m losing hope the medical bills are piling up. I paid a $3500.00 copay just to be admitted, as my insurance only covers 80%.

I spend my time making TikTok’s to pass the time with my fiancé come take a peek at my journey @theeedudeee
