Wrestlemania Honeymoon
Donation protected
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to celebrate life and love in the face of a cancer diagnosis by giving my friends the honeymoon of their dreams; Wrestlemania.
This past December shortly before her golden 27th birthday, my favorite friend Simone was diagnosed with Stage 4 adenocarcinoma, a non-small cell lung cancer developed from a genetic mutation. Not a month later, I anxiously made the drive from Philadelphia to her home in Cleveland to be face to face with for the first time since the diagnosis--and attend her wedding. Needless to say, I was worried. The distance between our respective cities made it difficult for me to understand the scope of her illness and her subsequent decision to get hitched right away did little to assuage my fears.
Simone and I first met in Chicago in 2014. Brought together by musical connections, we bonded over our mutual love of professional wrestling as we quickly forged a friendship stronger than John Cena himself. Every Wednesday night we would hang out, watch wrestling and make nachos and drink seltzer. Immediately, it became our tradition and my favorite day of the week. We attended our first Monday Night Raw together, which, short of Wrestlemania, is the most important thing that Wrestle Buddies can do together.
Even after we both left Chicago, we kept in touch often, always at the other end of a chain of wrestling-related texts. From the beginning, we agreed that some day we’d make our pilgrimage to Wrestlemania together and in the meantime SEE AS MUCH WRESTLING AS WE POSSIBLY COULD. In 2016 Simone bought us tickets to WWE Fastlane for my birthday, I flew from Portland to Cleveland to see Brock Lesnar throw grown men around, as Wrestle Buddies should.
Simone has always stayed an unshakably positive and supportive friend to those in her life. She’s one of the toughest humans I’ve ever met, all while maintaining an open and caring heart. This difficult cancer diagnosis has only magnified these remarkable qualities within her. She is an exceptional Wrestle Buddy and I’m honored to call her a friend.
On January 20th Simone married her wonderful and kind partner, Michael. I only met him in person days before the wedding but immediately we bonded. It’s real- we’ve exchanged memes daily ever since. At the wedding, Michael told me that since early in their relationship they've spent Wednesday nights together watching wrestling and making food. I already knew he was the right man for Simone, but this cemented my love for him. I am overjoyed that this is the man Simone is spending her life with. In whatever way I can, I want to ensure that the life they live together is full of love, wrestling, and nachos.
