Vietnam Veteran needs your help

Hi, My name is Solita, and my family and I are fundraising for our dad with our main goal of getting him back home to the US.

Our Ask: We plead for help for our father, Col. Pat Soliman Jr.(ret), who was confined in a Philippine hospital for almost a year in 2020-2021 resulting in a medical bill in excess of $250K. His diagnoses include congestive heart failure, end stage renal failure, and severe pleural effusion from a mitral valve leak. Our family has taken out personal loans and cashed out small retirement accounts but still have $62K left to pay, not to mention his continuing medical expenses for outpatient dialysis 3 times a week, medications & medical supplies, and a doctor-mandated in-home nurse.

About Dad: In 1968, while with the Philippine military, our father volunteered to go to Vietnam with the U.S. Army, proudly serving as a physician in the U.S. base where he treated American soldiers, civilians and unknowingly at first, enemy soldiers. After 20 years of military service, our father immigrated to the U.S. where he practiced medicine for 23 yrs. Ordinarily a private practice physician would accumulate significant retirement savings; however, dad's own patients will testify that he often charged no office co-pays particularly during his practice serving a coal mining community and an economically disadvantaged town in the mountains of Kentucky. Many medical claims with Medicare and insurance companies were also left uncollectible over the years. Additionally, our parents had 6 children, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and extended family whom they happily helped financially when needed until our mother's passing in 2016. Our father's only monthly sources of income now are social security and $158 from the State of Kentucky for his service at the state penitentiary. His small savings had been completely depleted by his hospital bills early in 2021.
