Support the Dubuque City Youth Ballet

Hi, my name is Chris 'Bear' Maiers.

I will be participating in the Dubuque Chamber of Commerce's Dubuque Dances with the Stars 2023! As part of my participation, I will be raising money for the Dubuque City Youth Ballet!

I am extremely honored to have Megan MacLeod, Principal Instructor & Artist-in-Residence of the Academy of Ballet, as my dance partner for the event with Marina O'Rourke, Director of the Academy of Ballet, as our choreographer.

My involvement with the ballet began over 5 years now. Little did I know when I agreed to be in the Nutcracker party scene 5+ years ago it would spark a love for ballet. Since that first Nutcracker, I began taking adult ballet classes and have now performed in the Nutcracker five times as well as A Midsummers Night's Dream & Sleeping Beauty ballets. I was to perform in Coppelia until COVID ruined those plans. I was also able to be part of the Don Quixote ballet this past March/April!

Money raised will help keep the ballet a vibrant part of our community. One of the greatest needs for the funds is to update the Nutcracker ballet backdrops that are over 25 years old! The vision is to have new backdrops created utilizing scenes of the Dubuque to bring a hometown connection to our beloved Nutcracker ballet. Funds will also be used to purchase equipment to enhance various scenes in the Nutcracker and future ballets. Finally, your contribution will help us win the mirrorball trophy as the top fundraiser!!
