WRNR’s Rob Timm needs your help

Several months ago Rob Timm, was diagnosed with Hypopharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Stage IV.

November 19, 2021 was the last day he hosted the WRNR Morning Show. He signed off the air that morning by explaining that he was facing some serious health issues for this rare type of cancer, which is concentrated just behind his larynx, or voice box. The treatment he’d begun receiving was starting to affect the dulcet tone of his speaking voice — the voice that has become so familiar to thousands of radio listeners in the Maryland area for over 30 years — and it was becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with the rigors and demands of morning drive-time radio.

I first met Rob in 1991, when we shared a morning show at WHFS. Our friendship quickly transcended from a professional relationship, to one of sheer brotherhood. Rob has faced serious challenges to his health before, which he has been able to overcome, thanks largely to his determined, serious sense of purpose, and a support group that is unwavering.

And yet, as anyone who knows Rob will tell you, he always maintains an enviable ability to approach life with a profound sense of humor and plenty of levity. He’s not only helped me when I needed that perspective on life, but countless Friends of Bill, to whom he has devoted so much of his time and compassion. Rob’s famous “sign off” each morning — “Be Well, Stay Safe, Do Good Deeds….” are truly the tenets by which he leads his life. Got a problem you can’t solve alone? Need a helping hand? Rob Timm has always been the guy who shows up, unsolicited.

Now, we have an opportunity to help someone who has spent a great deal of his life lifting and helping others.

For the last several weeks, Rob’s been undergoing aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatments. The great news is that Rob’s oncologists report that real progress is being made. The not so great news is that even with insurance, these treatments are incredibly expensive, and will create an enormous amount of debt for Rob, his wife Laurie, and their 15 year-old son, Carlin.

A financial donation of any denomination will have a positive impact on Rob’s family during this extraordinarily challenging time.

Rob’s treatment will continue into 2022. I will be posting updates on his progress on this page over the next several weeks.

On behalf of the Rob Timm family, and the WRNR family, we send our heartfelt gratitude and deepest appreciation for your support.

With great appreciation,

Bob Waugh
