Save Lucy’s life❤️

Hi everyone, my name is Grace Hietala. Lucy had a hard life before she was adopted into our family that gave her love of 5 human siblings and a big dog brother and 28 acres to run and play with her favorite toys, tennis balls and the water! Late June 1st our poor Lucy girl had a battle with a porcupine. Living up in northern Minnesota it’s not uncommon to see a dog get hit with some quills. However, this is the worse case of porcupine attack the veterinarians have seen in years. At first we just brought her in to get the quills out, they did that and then we took our baby girl home. That was not the end of her battle though. The next day Lucy began having trouble breathing so we rushed her to the vet hospital where they did another surgery, during that they found blood and quills in her trachea. This type of surgery removal could only be performed in the city’s and they were completely booked. We rushed her to the Duluth pet hospital Blue Pearl. Everyone was sobbing our eyes out on the way there because this Dr. did not know if he could preform the surgery. When we finally arrived Lucy had started to turn blue. But Lucy is a fighter she is our mama Lucy to our puppies, she is fighting. The vets quickly tubed Lucy and did an endoscopy my mom Anita Frantz got to witness then putting the tube down Lucy throat, they did amazing!! During the endoscopy they were able to pulls quills from her trachea and even some that were inside her stomach!! However Lucy still has quills in her that are working there way (hopefully) externally and not back into her throat area. We had to leave her over night where she still had trouble breathing so they sedated her and have given her oxygen. She has had 3 surgeries and two night stay at the hospital. We have spent almost around $5000 on her medical bills. We have empty our saving for her but she still might need to stay in the hospital so the quills can work their way out. Please help save our Lucy❤️
