Dignity Fund for QUEER ETHIOPIANS

House of Guramayle- https://houseofguramayle.org/ is raising funds via mutual aid as part of our effort to address issues related to current coordinated and concentrated attacks against our community and allies in Ethiopia. Raised funds will be used to pay for relocation, food, and other emergency expenses for members of our community who are in danger of eviction and physical attacks after being outed and are reaching out for support

To give a short context:

LGBTI+ Ethiopians are currently witnessing a considerable escalation in homophobic attacks. In 2023 alone, LGBTI+ activist organizations have documented over a dozen TikTok recordings exposing Ethiopians alleged to be LGBTQIA+. Some of these videos contain pictures of "homosexuals freely living in Ethiopia'' who must be outed to "reduce the prevalence of homosexuality in Ethiopia.'' Other videos display images of LGBTIA+ individuals and allies living in the diaspora. LGBTI+ individuals, activists, acquaintances who may or may not identify as LGBTI+, and allies have been targets of these videos. Many of the targeted individuals reside in Ethiopia, and some are public figures. The pictures in the videos—some of which are years old—were collected from private social media accounts. Beyond "exposing" the individuals as LGBTI+ or allies, these videos call for violence, encouraging followers to take matters into their own hands, and placing the lives of the targeted individuals in grave danger.

Our monetary resources as an organization are very limited and therefore restrict our capacity to react in a swift and effective manner. House of Guramayle will use these funds as a rapid response measure in various ways for the respective queer Ethiopians who are reaching out for help because their lives are in danger
