ΣΧ ΗΦ Derby Days 2022

Tax deductible
Last year we were unable to host Derby Days due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. However, during Spring 2019, we raised $24,000 for one of our brothers, diagnosed with cancer for the second time. Nick Garrett was diagnosed with a rare, benign form of Osteochondroma. Luckily, doctors caught the tumor before any damages had occurred. After the surgery, Nick has had to undergo physical therapy, quarterly visits to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, and frequent screenings and imaging to stay ahead of cancer.
This year we are looking to continue our fight against cancer by supporting the Huntsman Cancer Institute, an NCI-designated cancer research center and hospital located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The institute provides personalized care for all of its patients through new and innovative technologies. The Sigma Chi Fraternity and Huntsman Cancer Institute decided to team up in 2012 with one goal in mind, to become the generation to end cancer. Since 2012, Sigma Chi has helped raise over $10,000,000 in its efforts to support the institute and its patients. As a fraternity, we decided that there is still more work to be done. In 2019, we pledged to raise an additional $20,000,000 towards research and care specifically for women’s cancer. This year, through a week full of philanthropic events, Sigma Chi Eta Phi seeks to raise $25,000 this semester towards Huntsman Cancer Institute.
