Detained Family Seeks Release
Donation protected
My name is Frank Johnson; I’m an immigration lawyer from Boston, Massachusetts (Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Bar Registration Number 551172). A truly wonderful project has been underway for almost a year, without much media fanfare. The aim of the project is to provide pro bono legal services to women and children who are fleeing horrible violence in their native countries. Most of the women are from Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. While they came seeking refuge, mothers and their young children are being detained by our immigration authorities, frequently for more than six months.
Eva and her children (10-year old Erin and 4-year old Leo) have been detained for 11 months, ever since they arrived in the United States last July. Eva, Erin, and Leo were denied all release requests presented by their volunteer attorneys until June 11th, when the government set a cash bond in the amount of $7,500. For this family, $7,500 is a fortune.
We’re reaching out to anyone who might be interested to support refugee families by helping this pro bono project reunite these women and children with their loved ones here. Being released will afford them the chance to be safe while they await the ultimate outcomes of their applications to escape their persecutors and, hopefully, be permitted to stay in the United States.
Please donate what you can; every donation will make a difference.
