Making Golden Shoes Project an NFP

One pair of shoes for each life lost to violence.

Golden Shoes Project is a series of street art installations created by the community to create awareness of the number of people we are loosing to violence in our cities. 

The fist installation showed in San Juan, Puerto Rico with 1,136 pairs of shoes. One pair of shoes for each life lost to violence in the island in 2011. We have also done projects in LA, Chicago and now Jacksonville, Fl.

Golden Shoes Jacksonville will be presented April 14th at a vigil in Unity Plaza held by family members that have lost a loved one to violence in Jacksonville. 

GSP goals are: 
-Create awareness of the violence happening in our communities. 
-Unite communities through Art
-Honor lives lost through Violence

The birth of this project began when the creator of the project, Kazandra Santana, experienced an inmensed personal loss in 2011...the loss of her father. Although it was unrelated to violence, she needed to  do something  with the pain so she created a project to help guide her through the grieving process. In turn  this project has helped hundreds of family members of victims of violence through their grief. 

WHATS NEXT?
-In March of 2016, the creator of GSP did a TED talk in Los Angeles, CA based on the project. She will be doing another TED event, in May at UCLA.

-MAKING GOLDEN SHOES PROJECT A NON-FOR-PROFIT ORGANIZATION. 
So far the installations have been funded by the creator and through crowdsourcing  campaigns such as this one. We would like to continue to create awareness and unite communities by bringing GSP to  every major city in the US. In order to do, so GSP has to become a non for profit organization. The money raised will be used to pay for the fee to make GSP a 501 C3.
