Ukrainian shelter that saved hundreds of animals
Donation protected
Hi everyone! I would like to fundraise for Gostomel Animal Shelter in Ukraine, which my mother-in-law Asya founded 20 years ago.
“Sense of responsibility is stronger than fear"
In the morning of the outbreak of war, Asya Serpinska (77) decided quickly and firmly to leave her home in Kyiv to the Gostomel Shelter (also spelled “Hostomel” in translation). For five weeks under siege, she and a few other staff stayed in the shelter and protected their 700 dogs and 100 cats without any electricity. But still, Russians killed 16 animals. Some staff were injured. The shelter was fired upon three times. They resisted all these attacks and risked their lives to save animals. Asya says, “For us, to save animals is to be human.”

Today, the Gostomel Shelter is very active and busy, taking more homeless animals in and fixing damaged cages, fences, roof, windows, and walls - wherever possible.
• Dogs and cats need 5 tons of food per month
• Cost of repairing damaged roof itself exceeds $50,000
• The donation here is immediately and directly used in the area of most urgent needs for Gostomel Shelter (currently it is to repair fences for dogs)
• The government does not provide them with financial support
PLEASE join me to be part of these amazing, brave and compassionate team of people at Gostomel Shelter. Even a little donation is very much appreciated - it can save another dog or cat on the street!

“The war and the attack on Ukraine is a vivid example of what it means to lose one’s sense of humanity. As we have seen on the news, hospitals, schools, residential areas have all been bombed and attacked, and innocent citizens from children to the aged have lost their lives. How can you do such things if you have any sense of humanity?
Asya, on the other hand, in saving the animals at her shelter, is affirming her humanity. Such an expression of her humanity is maybe stronger than the bullets and bombs being inflicted on the Ukrainian people.” - Buddhist Churches of America
