** UPDATE AS OF 3/6 ** We have made the decision to become a pending 501c3 nonprofit organization, fiscally sponsored by NOPI - Nonprofit Incubator. As a result, we are moving our donation platform from GoFundMe to a nonprofit donation platform.
In mid-January, while on maternity leave, I helped my grandfather book a COVID vaccination appointment in Florida. The process was complicated and stressful, and it led me to look into what it looked like in Massachusetts. Upon discovering that it was even worse than in Florida, I started helping my friends and loved ones book appointments in Massachusetts.
While I started emailing friends and friends of friends tips and offering to help, there was only so much I could do alone. Also, I worried that I wasn't reaching those in the most need of help: older residents who aren't technically savvy, those with disabilities, and residents who belong to other disadvantaged groups. Having talked to many others who were eager to help, I created www.macovidvaxhelp.com.
I'm now organizing over 20 volunteers and helping hundreds of MA residents book COVID vaccination appointments by directly booking them on behalf of residents who cannot manage this themselves. This is requiring me to take time away from my infant and 4-year-old, and to cover costs such as web hosting and the automated alert services we use. Even a small amount of support is a big help!
At this time, neither I nor anyone on the volunteer team plan to make any money from this effort. All funds not used for direct support of www.macovidvaxhelp.com will be donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank or similar organizations.
Thanks and stay safe,
