Wyatt Allen our warrior

Donation protected
Our Wyatt has been hit hard unexpectedly by illness. Two months ago our world took a difficult turn. Wyatt was at his soccer game on a Sunday, he suddenly felt tired and was having a hard time keeping up with the other kids, which was very unusual. We got home and noticed his eyes and skin were yellow. Panicked we took him to our local ER. They ran some tests and said his liver was failing and he needed to get to UC Davis medical center asap for specialized care. Terrified we went UC Davis at 2 in the morning, where he had countless blood draws, scans and a liver biopsy. After 8 days of them running test after test and giving him fluids and meds to keep his liver working. They diagnosed him with Atypical Autoimmune Hepatitis. Unfortunately, they could not find the exact cause. We were then transferred to Stanford for a possible liver transplant. We were admitted there for another 7 days. With medication and great medical care, his liver started to heal. We were sent home, but within a couple weeks we were back at Stanford. The hepatitis has now caused a rare bone marrow failure called Severe Aplastic Anemia. His bone marrow has stopped producing blood cells. He has been receiving weekly blood transfusions to keep his body going. We have been told by the doctors that this disease is treated the same way they treat leukemia, with chemotherapy and a transplant. We are currently in the process of confirming a bone marrow match. Wyatt has been so strong through this dilemma. Even though his summer vacation has been consumed with blood draws and hospital visits, he rolls with all of this and doesn't complain. He jokes around and makes all of us smile through this tough time. He is a true warrior. He can't wait to go home to play with his sister and friends, see his dogs and go fishing. He will be unable to go to school this coming year, so we will be homeschooling him so he doesn't fall behind. His 8th birthday is September 3rd and unfortunately we will be in the hospital. As you can imagine, this intense situation has hit our family hard emotionally and financially. Wyatt cannot leave the vicinity of Stanford, because he is at risk of spontaneous bleeding that cannot be stopped. We were thankfully able to get a room at the Ronald McDonald House, which is near the hospital. We are taking turns traveling back and forth between Tahoe and Stanford to be with Kendall. Kendall is at home with Grandma and Grandpa Goe. She doesn't quite understand the severity of the situation, she just wants her brother home. She is keeping busy taking care of the dogs and fish. Alisha is working full time remotely from the room. Robert has quit his job to take care of Wyatt. We are completely overwhelmed financially between the hospital bills, traveling costs and everyday expenses. We never imagined we would end up in this type of dire situation. Right now we really need any help we can get with Wyatt's medical costs and everyday expenses. We already owe over $10,000 in bills to all the different hospitals, this is after insurance has paid. We haven't even started the transplant yet, which we were told would be close to one million dollars. We are humbly asking for assistance with our extreme costs. It is very difficult for us to ask for help in this way and we would be beyond grateful for your kind support. Thank you so much. Love, The Shields Family
