Oso's Recovery--Autistic support dog
Donation protected
On Tuesday June 6, 2023, between 4:30 -5:00 PM our service dog Oso was shot in the right side of his face and body with a shotgun. Oso was in the yard with the family while we were doing yard work. My husband heard a gunshot and sent the kids to look for Oso. The kids found him walking towards our house on the road “a bloody mess” -per Gideon. The kids picked him up and carried him home. We cleaned him up and a local vet came to the house and advised us to wait and see if he would live through the night.
The following day we took Oso to Upper Valley Vet in Rexburg Idaho. Doc. Esplin and the team were amazing! They took great care with Oso and helped clean him up further. The x-rays confirmed that Oso had been shot with a shotgun and that there were hundreds of pellets in his body. Oso’s right eye had ruptured, and the left eye was blind due to the trauma, the retina had detached making him blind.
Oso is a four-year-old, cream colored, Aussie-doo. He is our autistic son’s (Gideon) support dog. They have a bond that is unbreakable. Oso helps Gideon to calm down when he is getting over stimulated or heading for an autistic breakdown. For the past week Gideon has not left Oso and is struggling with why this happened. We are working with the police department to try and get Oso some justice.
We are trying to raise money to cover the medical bills and the new supplies Oso will need. We want to get him a Halo collar, a larger / safer kennel for inside the house, a new service / blind dog harness, and sensory toys for blind dogs.
Thank you for the continues prays, support, and love. We are blessed to live in such an amazing community.
With deep appreciation,
