Wynn's Global Education Journey

Dear Friends and Family,

In January 2024, I realized I had enough credits to graduate early from high school. With college applications and the admissions process for other graduating seniors around me well underway, I decided to wait a year before heading to college . The uncertainty of taking time away from school has been a bit daunting. Fortuitously (and while I was putting together a plan for my year) I connected with a family friend who had just returned from a gap semester with Education First (EF), a Sweden-based organization that makes student learning and traveling the globe a possibility for me.

With EF, I will travel with 50 others to twelve countries this Fall (in as many weeks) and participate in a three-month language intensive semester in Nice, France during Spring 2025. My parents like the idea of experiential learning experiences, but let me know early on that it would be very important to think about the logistics and finances of this adventure in addition to how it complements my college and career goals. As someone interested in global policy and foreign service, I can't imagine a more valuable experience. This trip will enhance my global perspective and allow me to expand my understanding of myself and what I wish to do after college.

The only drawback of the trip is the cost. Budgeting for the variety of contexts requires strategic planning and funds to ensure a smooth and enriching experience. The program covers the cost of housing, however I am responsible for the costs of meals, independent travel, and unplanned group activities over the course of the year. While I have saved diligently, the expenses are substantial. Therefore, I am reaching out to my community for support in making this incredible opportunity a reality.

Your contribution, regardless of size, will directly affect my growth and development during this gap year.
