Riley Strong

September 22, 2022 is a date that will forever be etched in our mind. At only 13 months old Riley Nova was diagnosed with High-Risk Neuroblastoma stage IV. Neuroblastoma is an aggressive childhood cancer that starts in immature nerve cells. After a biopsy and multiple scans, we found that it had metastasized to other parts of her body. Because of this treatment had to begin immediately. So far Riley has completed 4 rounds of chemotherapy and as recent as last week tumor removal surgery. They were only able to remove 90% of the tumor in her abdomen. 10% is wrapped around her aorta and cannot be removed. The portion around the aorta and other areas of her body (skull, shoulder, and pelvis) will be treated with chemotherapy, radiation, and immune therapy. We were told Riley’s treatment would be 18-24 months long due to the aggressiveness of Neuroblastoma. Currently, we are in the 4th month of treatment and have a long journey ahead of us. Once the doctor deems her well enough from surgery, she will go in for round 5 of chemotherapy.

The next phase of restoration will involve a Stem Cell Transplant. Riley will be hospitalized for 4 to 5 weeks consecutively depending on her body’s response to the transplant. An adult will be required to always stay with her at the hospital. This will require a parent to take a leave of absence from work. Radiation and Immune-Therapy will also require time off from work. Taking a leave of absence will cause a financial strain and insurance will not cover the full cost of the treatment Riley desperately needs. That’s the reason for this Go Fund Me.
