My hero has Leukemia

Above pictured is my beautiful mother Tracy. Inside and out, my mother is truly amazing. She has a heart of gold and would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Whether she is crocheting baby blankets for new moms or making sure every hungry child was fed she always leads with love and compassion in every step she takes.

As a child she was like my own personal super hero. We didn’t have a lot growing up but she made a lot out of nothing. We didn’t live in the best area, I didn’t have the flyest clothes but what I did have was love. Love, respect, morals and values. Safety and structure. Traditions and triumphs. A hard working role model showing her children what a productive member of society looks like.

The love I felt as a child is truly undeniable. She was always there, a shoulder to cry on or words of wisdom, she wouldn’t let me down. I could always count on her to uplift my spirits or see another perspective with her firecracker attitude. Not only is she my friend, confidante and backbone, she is my strength. The strength I can’t live without.

For these reasons, I am forever indebted and right now she needs me and everyone else the most.

As some of you may know, my mom was recently diagnosed with Chronic Neutrophilic Leukemia. It is a very rare (less than 200 cases in the world), high risk Leukemia. It requires a bone marrow transplant.  Without it, she would live 6 months. With it and if it takes, she could gain 3 years. This is a process she will have to keep repeating to sustain life.

She will endure chemotherapy and radiation, a long hospital stay for the transplant and endless medication. She is restricted from work right now because covid could be fatal. She has applied for disability but that could take over a year to be approved and still it is a fraction of her income. We still don’t know if her transplant will even be approved by her insurance as her genetic testing wasn’t. She had to rely on the gracious UW hospital to cover the $5000 cost of the test. Cancer is expensive and money is the last thing she should have to worry about right now. We need her strong.

To think that my mom, my heart and soul might not be just a phone call away anymore is truly heartbreaking. So, I am asking, pleading with everyone. Donate. Anything you can, even if it’s nightly prayers. Anything helps

I appreciate you all ❤️
