The gofundme was started by Jessica Odem for my mother-in-law.

Mary Jo was born with a heart defect. She’s had a loud heart murmur since birth. It never bothered her till about 3 months ago. Every now and then she would feel tired or exhausted. But, just for a moment or two. She remembers thinking “ boy, i’m out of shape”. Well that wasn’t it. Mary Jo finally mentioned it to someone. Her son Joshua. The next morning he drove her to the hospital to get checked out. She thought they would prescribe her a pill and send her on her way. She was admitted. One week later Mary Jo had open heart surgery. Aortic valve replacement. Surgery was done and Mary Jo was still in shock. It all happened so fast. Six days later she was sent home with a bag of prescription medication and basically a good luck. The hospital bill is $590,000.00. Yeah, wow. And that’s not the problem. It’s all the post op appointments and tests. Post op bills are already overflowing. Mary Jo is uninsured. The monthly bills keep coming. The post op doctors want payment. And she’s looking at three to four month recovery . Let’s help keep her on her feet.
